This project is a redesign of the website for Riverside Art Center which is a non-profit business located in Wapakoneta, OH focused on inspiring and creating an environment for artists to thrive in.
To start off with the web redesign process, I decided to conduct an analysis of the current website to uncover user experience and user interface issues that were present.
First, through an audit of the website and using UX design principles, I was able to uncover several issues that may be impacting the user experience. Some of the issues I discovered included missing headers on pages, inconsistent formatting and layouts of the website, and text accessibility.
Next, I conducted user interviews to understand the usability of the website from a different perspective. I had three interviewees go through the website and asked them questions about their experience navigating through the pages.
After that, I researched competitors of Riverside Art Center to see how competitors were structuring their website and to find strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities to further elevate the website I was redesigning.
When the competitive analysis was complete, I worked on three low fidelity wire frame pages to set the foundation of the new layout of the website using what I learned from the website audit, user interviews, and competitive analysis.
The next step was to create a style guide and guidelines for the redesign after the structure was planned out. I decided to use a color scheme and typography that was unique and complemented the fact that the business was a art center. After coming up with a style guide and guidelines, I carefully implemented these UI changes into the wireframe, ensuring that the UX was not affected.
Finally, I was able to create a prototype of the new redesign using the 3 pages that I believed needed the most change. Not only does the new redesign ensure a better user experience for the user, but the brand identity is also more clear when given a structured style guide - ultimately improving the user interface as well.
